Bradley holed a superb 15-foot birdie putt at the 72nd hole to make the play-off and just moments after fans went hysterical as Phil Mickelson rolled in a curling 40-footer to send the tournament into extra holes.

But it was fellow American Bill Haas who then sank a similar 40-footer at the second extra play-off hole to win the $US 1.2m first prize.

However while U.S. based TV coverage of the round seem to conveniently ignore Bradley’s actions, SKY Sports analyst and former European Tour player Andrew Coltart described Bradley’s behavior as ‘disgusting’.

There was one occasion at the 13th hole of the Riviera course where Bradley was counted spitting four times in the course of 15 practice swings.

It’s not that Bradley is purposely launching a huge mouthful of saliva in the direction of the fairway, as Tiger Woods was spotted during the final round of the 2011 Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Bradley’s spitting seems to be a nervous reaction and where on one occasion the spit actually dribbled onto his clothing.

And Bradley has to be one of most fidgety and nervous-looking players ever to take to the PGA Tour and watching him in his pre-stroke routine has to be seen to be believed.

On the tee he’ll take a half-a-dozen practice swings while his routine also features walking up to his ball some three to four times and placing the driver to the right of his ball.

Bradley was in a bunker coming down the last few holes on Sunday and he must have walked in and out of the sand trap five or six times before he finally settled over his shot.

Then once on the green Bradley has this unique way of reading his putts by turning his face to the left and staring at the line with a potruding left eye that looks very peculiar.

He's only been on the PGA Tour for two years but administrators need to speak to Bradley quickly to eradicate this behaviour from him game.

There was one humorous comment from a TV commentator during the play-off when after again observing Bradley spitting he remarked: “I’m surprised Bradley’s got any saliva left!”

And Bradley was not alone in spitting last Sunday as Dustin Johnson was shown spitting out the remains of chewing tobacco on route to finishing two strokes outside of making the play-off.
