Bill Haas in big lead after third round Viking Classic
MADISON, Mississippi - Bill Haas birdied three of his final five holes late Saturday, to shot a 69 and take a four-shot lead into the final round of the PGA Tour’s Viking Classic.

Haas, the son of American golf legend Jay Haas, led after the first and second rounds, but saw his lead shrink down to one shot early on the back nine at Annandale Country Club. He rallied to put himself in good shape to claim his second PGA Tour win in 2010. “So far, it’s been pretty stress free,” Haas said. “The greens are in such good shape here, you almost expect to make putts if you hit the ball good.”
Haas finished at 15-under 201 with a clear edge going for his second win this year, after a victory at the Bob Hope Classic in February. After not making a bogey in the first two rounds, he made three and a double bogey Saturday, but offset that with plenty birdies. He remains the only player to shot in the 60s every day.

Zimbabwe’s Brendon de Jonge, who was tied with Haas after the second round, slipped to second place after a third-round 73. He is at 11-under-par, 205, and tied with Australian Nathan Green and American Michael Allen, who also plays on the age 50-and-over Champions Tour. Both Green and Allen shot a Saturday 70 under clear, sunny and warm conditions.
Allen has already won on the Champions Tour, but is still looking for his first PGA Tour victory after 357 tournaments there. “That’s what we’re out here for,” said Allen Saturday. He will play in the final pairing Sunday with Haas. “It’s going to be a fun day tomorrow. That’s why we play, to have fun out here.”
American Jason Bohn was alone in fifth place, five shots behind Haas, after a Saturday 67, the best score among the players at the top of the leaderboard.
