Watson´s "Hey, bud" reply to President Obama
Bubba Watson wasn’t about to change his laid back ways even if it was President Obama phoning the Masters winning hero. Watson spent the first two days as Master champion in New York for a whirlwind tour of TV chat show appearances and radio interviews when Obama phoned from the White House.
“Hey Bubba,” said Obama.
Watson, without thinking, responded: “Hey, bud. I mean Mr. President.”
Watson said the President told him not to worry, he could call him Bud.
“We’re all golfers,” Watson remembers the conversation going “and I said, yeah, especially us lefthanders.”
On arrival by private jet into New York, Watson appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight and CBS’s David Letterman Show.
Letterman asks Watson how he describes his style of play. The MC cracked up when Watson responded: “Awesome!”
Watson was Letterman’s first guest, appearing before Sean Hayes, who stars in the new ‘Three Stooges’ movie and country singer Shooter Jennings.
Watson presented Letterman with a signed pink Ping driver that Letterman was auction for charity.
Watson had bumped comedian Jim Gaffigan off the Letterman Show and also taped interviews for CNBC various radio programs before starting Wednesday morning with an appearance on the CBS Today Show.
Watson was also a guest on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe Show’ while he taped more interviews including the PGA Tour’s ‘Inside the PGA Tour’.
And while in the Big Apple Watson received a phone call from near Augusta winning hero, Greg Norman and remarked to the Great White Shark ‘I learned that shot from you’ in reference to the wedge Watson played off pine needles down the second extra play-off hole.
There was a message from serial tweeter, Ian Poulter that asked: “”Have you taken it off yet?” Watson replied: “Only to shower.”Written by Bernie McGuire
